Dear Cyberfriends,
I am Dirk's mother, and Dirk asked me to keep you updated on how he is
doing. Well I have to tell you all some sad news, wednesday the 25th we went
to the hospital for his 7th chemo, but as Dirk told you he wasn't feeling
well. The doctors examined him and they found a huge tumor and fluid in his
left lung, there is nothing that they can do for him anymore, the prognosis
is that he only has a few weeks to live... At the moment it's going very
fast, day by day he is getting worse... Dirk asked me to tell you this, and
that when he passes away, he wants the comments to be used as a memorial
register, and then the blog will be closed. It will stay as a memorial in
loving memory of Dirk.. Greetings and love from Dirk and his mom Janny

decent Beatelesque psych pop,this album is quite rare.
this is the only vinyl rip i could find,and one track is damaged
my fav. tracks are Dreamseller and Bad Trip.
overall a good addition to the collection of psych pop freaks.
the album was recorded in belgium.
and got released there by EMI Europe,Baal Records did the asian
release.

This MONUMENTAL album is indeed magical - a long-lost Malaysian Magical Mystery Tour that so few people have ever heard - and anyone who loves the tuneful orchestrated UK popsike sounds of bands like the Bee Gees, Idle Race, Beatles and all the Rubble comp bands will LOVE this album too. Granted, it didn't get released until 1972, long after their particular sound was way out of style in England, but in Signapore, they were superstars.

Back From Vacation

So im back from a well deserved vacation.
the weather in the begining of the first week wasn't that good
but towards the weekend the weather was excellent (25 Celcius ect..)

we also hired a Tandem (wich wasn't Turquoise)
so i could ride a bicycle ,wich i had not done for a very long time.

and did lots of other things

tomorrow i'll post some music and next week wednesday ill have my seventh!
chemo cure ,and that there is only one left!

and then i realy don't want to see a hospital for a very long time!

Chemo Cure and then Going On Vacation

I Will Be On Vacation For Two Weeks after my chemo cure

Recently came from my 10 year old brother's school musical (around a hour ago)
not that he is leaving school allready,the school he goes to is a really (x2) small school
with around 35 kids,and the highest grade only has 2 kids in it,and both are leaving the school
so two other grades had to help.

later me & my lil' bro watched a little bit from a David Bowie dvd
after he asked what i was listening to,which was of course David Bowie (mostly he asks such kind of questions when he likes something) and personally i see it as my duty as his oldest brother to give him a somewhat good music taste (he allready likes Dungen & A Band Of Bees ect..)
and i couldn't find a good quality picture of a David Bowie live show,so i searched for my 30th Anniversary DVD Special Edition of the Ziggy Stardust Motion Picture.

so tomorrow i will be getting my sixth chemo cure,which means that there are only two more left! (Whoo!) and Friday the rest of my family is going on vacation in a big vacation house which we rented
and Saturday when i am finished with the chemo cure,they will pick me up
and then i'll be on a two week vacation (without internet *sob* )

so see you soon again! ,and if there is any internet cafe near it,i might post some updates from there (but no music of course)

and the opening of the revalidation centre went good,the helicopter flight was really awesome.
(i would recommend it to you all!)

The Jaguars-First Album

The Jaguars,you might seen them on various compilations
with songs like Dancin' Baby & Dancing Lonely Night (wich both are great songs)
this album includes quite some bonus tracks
songtitles translated to english by Lizardson

They were one of most famous GS; many Japanese remember their debut song "Want You See Again(Kimi ni Aitai)".

They sung some moody hit songs and wrote cool punk ballads like "My Dawn"
On the other hand, they were compared to Dave, Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich.

Jaguars covered "Zabadak", "Legend of Xanadu".

This Japanese cover version of Xanadu was a #20 hit.
Actually, it was the flip side of another moody song.

The lead singer Sin Okamoto attracted teen girls with his good looks and singing with whip like Dave Dee.

Also they covered the fab "Tobacco Road" which is on the "Big Lizard Stomp" compilation, which was a psychedelic version, much like the Blues Magoos, "Blue Feeling" (Slitherama), "See See Rider" (Banzai Freak Beat).

They appeared in their own movie "Jaguars Tekizen Jyouriku" in '68, a cool comedy which was influenced by the Beatles' "Help!".
But soon after, the leader/drummer Miya quit the band due to a conflict with the other members. He wrote their early original "Beat Train".
He formed a new group called New Jaguars and released a few singles, but they weren't successful.

you might think Eleki?,what's that in heaven's sake!

The term Eleki is applied to the first japanese big band boom
and is short for Electric (as in electric guitars)
wich started when The Ventures first visited in japan in May 1962
wich was the first of many to come
And by the time they visited japan aqain on January 65
lots of instrumental rock bands allready had been started
In 1965 760,000 guitars were made in Japan, a record that has yet to be broken.

Hara No Umi (which both opens and closes the album) is jaw-dropping--it starts as mellow traditional Japanese music an then builds to an all-out Eleki stomper.

Vicious guitar licks, surf induced wah-wah and fuzz distorted interceptions, all pored over with an oriental sonic garage back base. This really rocks and stings like a bat out of hell. A vicious party slammer, psyched up, fuzzed-out and fuelled up ready to leave burning tire tracks all over your sorry ass. This disc is not yet been detected by the larger psychedelic collecting crowd, so it comes quite cheap. We speak of 1968 here, real stunning album and quite rare these days. Highest recommendation

Originally released in Japan in 1992 and reissued in the U.S. by Squealer in late 1998, Dispersion is an album to acquire only if you like your psychedelic rock and heavy metal with a lot of improvisation, jamming and blowing. If you love hearing Cream and Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsies stretch out on their live recordings, Dispersion would be an excellent purchase. As a rule, Cream would provide its share of radio-friendly singles ("White Room," among others) and save the extended blowing for the stage. But there's nothing radio friendly about "Sanctuary," "Outside Gentiles," "Eucharist" and other extended performances on this CD (which isn't as punk influenced as earlier efforts like 1986's High Rise II). Extended guitar solos are the rule for High Rise, and Munehiro Narita (whose blistering, metallic distortion and feedback recall Hendrix and Eric Clapton) is such a captivating guitarist that it's a joy to hear him stretch. Obviously, long solos aren't everyone's cup of tea; Dispersion is for listeners who are willing to sit down and hear improvising rockers do their thing.

It seems Hiro Yanagida was the keyboard player for Foodbrain and Love Live Life + One, amongst others, kicking his solo career off with 1970's Milk Time.
Hirocosmos is his fourth solo, and can be summed up in one word: fusion.
Various jazz/rock styles are covered, although Yanagida's probably at his best when delivering fiery, Mahavishnu-type stuff, as on Rockomotion or The Sea Of Tempest when it gets going, although the album contains more of his reflective material along the lines of Time For Reverie.

His keyboard work is fairly astounding, with some absolutely blistering Moog work on several tracks, along with the ubiquitous Rhodes.
He plays Mellotron on two tracks, with some stupidly fast 'Tron flute work on Breaking Sound-Barrier; no idea how he played that without loads of key-click, missed notes etc. Talent, I suppose. Anyway, more flutes and strings on Happy Cruise, although that would appear to be it.'

this is what he wrote about the album:

This perfect album was release in 1972 with Hiro Yanagida on keyboard. Other musicians are not well known. As I know some of them were session musicians in different times and that the lyrics for this album were written by Takashi Matsumoto (from Apryl Fool and Happy End).
You will not find here a prog or psych. This is a quite interesting album. The mood of this album is so positive that seems it was written for kids or all musicians here remembered their childhood :) But nevertheless it's a brilliant album which is fun to listen to

The 2nd and last album from Flied Egg, also originally released in 1972 on Japanese Vertigo. It's a theoretical live album, with a miraculously heavier "rockin" sound than Dr. Siegel's Fried Egg Shooting Machine. Number of tracks with the word "woman" in the title? A mere one. But don't let that lessen the sensational experience of your your brain cells slowly killing themselves off one by one as this stoner-magnet spins in your player.

The last album was mostly live [from their farewell concert, apparently] and leant more towards their heavy rock side, notably influenced by Grand Funk circa ‘Live Album’ and numerous Black Sabbath-meets-Mountain wannabes, and including a couple of old Strawberry Path songs. The studio material was in a similar vein to the range of styles on their first album. Drummer Hiro Tsunoda had previously been in The Jacks, Foodbrain and Strawberry Path, and was also in Sadistic Mika Band at some point. Bassist Masayoshi Takanaka had previously been in Brush

Reissue of the first Flied Egg album, originally issued by Japanese Vertigo in 1972. An offshoot of the short-lived Strawberry Path, Flied Egg were a trio of Shigeru Narumo (guitar, keyboards), Hiro Tsunoda (drums, vocals) and Masayoshi Takanaka (bass). They played a hogwash of progressive hard rock with pop-like flourishes all featuring English vocals.
the album have a very nice psuedo Dali-cover painting. And what band to ever appear on the Vertigo roster had a better name than Flied Egg?

due to the fact Jojo Hiroshige & Co didnt ask permission to cover the songs by Morita Doijil.
this album has the almost angelic vocals of Mineko Itakura(from Angel'in Heavy Syrup)
who almost sounds like Morita herself

About Slap Happy Humphrey (by JoJo Hiroshige):
Slap Happy Humphrey had its real debut on The Aiyoku Jinmin Battle Royal compilation, put out by Alchemy in the summer of 1992, with the song "Gyakkosen" ("Light My Eyes"). The concept of the band was to do noisy covers of the songs by Morita Doji, a singer active in the late '70s - early '80s. All of her works had gone out of print, and I never even heard her name mentioned anymore. It came as a total surprise when her song "Bokutachi no Shippai" ("Our Failure") was used in 1993 as the theme song for a TV series, becoming a hit, with sales of 800,000, and leading to CD reissues of her whole back catalog. Slap Happy Humphrey had recorded two more songs, "Chiheisen" ("Horizon") and "Sentimental Dori (Street)" for a PUblic Bath single in the fall of 1992 (it was released in April of 1994), and plans were made for a full CD, but in the midst of the Morita Doji "boom," it would have been overkill, so recording was put off for over a year.

edip is currently my fav. turkish artist next to the king of turkish rock (Erkin Koray!)
this album contains his first two records(minus 1 track) and some singles
from the same era.

Desciption/Review from Aquarius Records

Glad tidings for Turkish psych freaks, or those soon to become Turkish psych freaks (just give this a listen!): here's a new must-have collection crammed full of swirling, fuzzed-out electric saz, impassioned vocals, and traditional Turkish folk gone funk! If you are indeed into the groovy East-meets-West psychedelia that flourished in Istanbul back in the '60s and '70s, artists like Mogollar, 3 Hur-el, Baris Manco, and Erkin Koray, chances are you may already be familiar with Edip Akbayram and his band Dostlar (formed in '73). This new Edip Akbayram double disc on the Shadoks label contains 24 tracks, including ten of the 14 cuts found on that previous reissue (meaning, if you already have that cd, you still will want this for the whole disc and then some of songs you don't have... and you can't get rid of the Nedir reissue either if you want those four songs that don't overlap). So this is definitely the Edip set to get at any rate.

The colorful music of Edip Akbayram and Dostlar is pretty much the hardest-rockin' all the Turkish psych acts of the era I've heard...darn heavy in spots. The Anatolian folk-rock of the sixties is blended with a polyester '70s wah-wah funked-up progginess here. It's vibrant and colorful music to make you feel like you're in some smoky, swinging nightclub on one of the warren of narrow, twisting side-streets off of the hip main drag Istiklal in the Beyoglu neighborhood of Istanbul, back in the day, sweating on the dance floor or sitting back, sucking on a hookah.

The cd booklet is full of cool photos, and a page of liner notes, giving Edip's bio but no info on the tracks themselves, I'm just told that they're from his first two albums and singles. However, they do include English translations of the song titles, which should give some idea of Edip's seemingly dire outlook on life (or the outlook shared by his Turkish folk sources), with such songs as "Sorrow And More Sorrow", "Miserable", "In Vain", "Our Village Is Full Of Smoke", "Don't Touch My Sad Soul", "Tyrant", "Gallows Pole" and even "My Car Broke Down"! Sounds like a bummer, yet many of these tracks are amazingly upbeat musically!

Edip definitely belongs high up in the reissued ranks of all the incredible, obscure, groovy sixties/seventies psych sounds from all around the world that I can't get enough of: Os Mutantes, San Ul Lim, Mogollar, Blo, Bango, Brincos, Krysztof Klenzon, Juan de la Cruz, Los Dug Dugs, He 6, the stuff on comps like Cherrystones Rocks, Welsh Rare Beat, Prog Is Not A Four Letter Word, Studio One Funk, etc. etc. etc.

this is the volume called Psychedelic Man
and collects stuff from the Columbia record label

includes the first Flower Travellin' Band single (Crash/Doop)
wich they recorded with the Terumasa Hino Quintet(or Quartet)
also has a a non album track by Yuya Uchida & The Flowers
compilation has 25 tracks!
contains quite some bands i previous didnt know.

In the Japanese underground music scene, the artists see no distinction in the varying pockets of the avant-garde. Be it the late free jazz bassist otoharu Yoshizawa, whose improvisation sparing partners were as many as folk troubadours. In the music, material from Keiji Haino that can only be called "total" music or the eccentric folk blues of Kan Mikami, one thing can be said about this trio: that their common link that makes them such appropriate collaborators is their absolute willingness to create a music that knows no boundaries. On this second volume of their Live in the First Year of Heisei project, the trio create a singular music forged from their highly distinguished styles. At times their improvisations are unconfortably primitive, and the guitars, vocals, and bass seem focussed on revealing the very essence of music. An often ugly and grueling interaction that is part Cecil Taylor, part Howlin' Wolf. In other moments, the live recording exhibits elating bursts of pure inspired spontaneity, and the three soulful performers take flight in one collective sweep of pure musical energy. This is an essential recording for fans of either of the three artists and has elements of their collective solo work, notably the intensity of Keiji Haino and Kan Mikami's Vajra project. That fractured guitar and vocal energy, underpinned by Motoharu Yoshizawa's masterful bowed-bass phrasing, is a striking and unique combination.

a favourite of mine,contains some awesome guitar work by guitar god Kimio Mizutani
who also played on the People,Love Live Life+,Uganda & Hiro Yanagida albums (to name a few)

Classic Japanese underground rock album, previously reissued on P-Vine (and more recently, Walhalla). Kimio Mizutani (not the Rallizes dude) was the guitarist in the excellent Japanese freak out group Love Live Life +1 and this is a reissue of his first solo album from 1971, originally issued by Japanese Polydor. Mizutani plays electric and 'folk' guitar, leading a largish rock ensemble (bass, drums, organ, Moog, vocals, etc.) through the paces of what is widely regarded as the true psychedelic masterpieces of the early '70s Japanese scene. Sensitive interludes (with accompaniment by the Toyama String Quartet and Etoh Wood Quartet), tasteful nods to progressive/fusionist extension and lovely psych guitar hoverings by Mizutani dominate the proceedings. A nice merger of hard rock conceptualization and the complexities that would evolve from it.

Folk-blues duo from The Hague. Downy Boy Jason and Sleepy John Baker recorded 1 LP and 1 single. Both musicians were from famous garage-beat band The Kick.
On this LP they got help from a Group 1850 member and the Q65 drummer. Orig psych-artwork kept intact

Very difficult to describe this, very weird, strange sounds and effects and poetry!
Totally freaked out, stoned, erotic but also political psychedelia - some poets do sort of singing - very weird!!! Everything is mixed into one piece - so it sounds like long TRIP!!!
Lyrics are mostly in Dutch, but there are few poems in English. Poets are: Hans Wesseling, Simon Vinkenoog, Bob Lens and Nona. Record come in nice gatefold sleeve. There are some pictures inside and poems, while the back cover is reserved with REALLY COOL artwork

and taken from a bootleg
i posted this one somewhere in 2006 but that was in crappy 128 kbits.

got this one from some one at the Lost In Tyme blog
who felt that this was more appropriate for my blog.

One of the most obscure Dutch albums is without a doubt the LP by Surprieze, titled: Zeer oude klanken en heel nieuwe geluiden (Very old sounds and completely new sounds), performed and arranged by Ed van der Meer de Walcheren.
Eddie in 1995: “In september 1966, I started up the band Slack Gang in Breda. We played blues, inspirated by John Lee Hooker, Howling Wolf, Sonny Boy Wiiliamson etc.
Little by little we changed into a kind of cult-band, playing music which we called ‘freeblues’, long tracks, influenced by bands like Capt.Beefheart.
In 1967 we performed in The Hague at the Holland Blues Festivbal in the famous club ‘De Drie Stoepen’, where we played together with acts like Indiscrimination and the Leo Unger Band.
During those days there was something going on in Breda, under the influence of the Academy of Art and the semi-anarchal Theatre ‘De Trapkes’ where mostly jazz and freeform Theatre was performed.
This was the place wheer we held our Provadya-evenings with Slack Gang.
The music of that band grew more into the pop-direction and I left the band.
I continued playing blues and doing some solo-performances.
The LP Surprieze dates from that time (1973).
It contains a.o. Turkish music, blues, free-jazz and electronic sounds”.

"Typical of the company's early, crazed style is the recently reissued Throw Away The Books, originally released on their own label in 1970. Confusingly, there is a film soundtrack of the same title, but this is the extremely rare original theatrical version and contains entirely different material. Subtitled 'a high-teen symphony', the performance centers around untrained adolescents reading out their own tortured, angry (and in one case, stuttering) texts and poems. Their stories of family disintegration and mother-hate, dreams and hopes for the future, and love songs to teen murderer Norio Nagayama and Mick Jagger are set to an attractively rough and ready pounding psych-rock soundtrack largely composed by organist Kuni Kawachi. Kawachi had been a member of pioneering Prog group Happenings Four and his brooding organ riffs feature throughout. As well as heavy rockers like the great opening 'Lets Go Ornette', with its ripping fuzz lead, Orff-style choral chants and motorbike effects, Kawachi was also capable of delicate, folkish pieces ideally suited for some of the company's outstanding female vocalists, several of whom developed successful singing careers outside of Tenjo Sajiki. Also of note is a track composed by a young design school dropout, Shinjuku street hippy and winner of a nationwide longhair competition, by the unlikely name of JA Caesar (Tenjo Sajiki also had its own Sinatra and Salvador Dali). Set to a simple handclap rhythm, Caesar's tale of the panhandling life possessed a subtle melodic strength and depth that hinted at the minor keys of traditional folk song. Caesar soon came into his own, composing all the music for Terayama's performances and films for the next decade, and finally inheriting the remnants of the troupe after Terayama's death in 1983." - Alan Cummings, The Wire.

August 1974 is surely one of the most hallowed and whispered about documents of the avant-garde artifact-era (a set of these on original LP would set you back $1000+ even 10-15 years ago & have very rarely been offered anywhere). The sound is floating like coming from distant loudspeakers, coloured back and forth from hand made electronic devices and delayed throug echo machines. Bass, harmonica, trumpet,
synthesizer, oriental percussions are added. There are no interractions between the musicians, each one is having his own inner discussion with the instrument, however the result of merging them all together is a pulsating feedback of complex sound waves. Music drifts slowly like autumn sunsets or a peacefull lovemaking offer. Zen-like approach to ethnic japanese music and gets into an intergalactic mind trip. Full of cosmic electronics, kosugi's violin effects, tibetan chanting, ethnic drones, oscillators the band displays one track of eerie haunting galaxial music full of quiet tension

"Places and times of the trip: coffee houses, small galleries of Tokyo. They perform also on lonely beaches at dawn or on deserted hills in the afternoon. Also in Sweden, India, Iran, and England. Wherever a power supply is available. 'This music is not rehearsed, it happens. Without written notes or oral instructions; without an ensemble leader, each one having his own discourse immediately integrated into a slow, irregular throbbing of complex sound waves. Sound waves surfing.' Verfremdung: instruments are amplified with delay through echo machines. Previously produced sounds delivered by distant loudspeakers have already become something beyond reach when heard. This feedback - actually a time-space lag - is the basis of their music. The instrument arsenal: a violin played with glissandi in the same manner as the Indian sitar, string bass, guitar, drums, harmonica, small synthesizers, santurs (Iranian dulcimer played with two spoon-shaped mallets), a shahnal (Indian oboe), voices (Japanese Buddhist chanting, harmonic singing such as La Monte Young does or as heard in Stockhausen's 'Stimmung'). Amplifiers: a heterodyne (voltage controlled filters connected to infrasonic wave sources) which changes tone colors back and forth very slowly. Also, other rather primitive hand-made electronic devices. All these contribute to the everchanging diversity of the ensemble. Close your eyes, relax and musically receive passing clouds, breezes, surging waves. This music is slow as a Japanese tea ceremony and as peacefully full of cheer as ancient scroll paintings."

70's Turkish Rock

a lesser know turkish artist
this was released not so long ago by World Psychedelica
who also brought us gems like the Kim Jung Mi,3 Hur-el and Erkin Koray
this time its a compilation,a somewhat a best of

You won't find this guy in the rock and roll history books, but man he's got a really great sound -- one that mixes Turkish folk with trippier touches from the early 70s -- often in a driving, rhythmic mode that comes across strongly despite any language barriers! Heavy percussion is often used underneath the guitar on the tracks -- creating a forward-moving, nicely grooving quality that echoes with "eastern" styled notes -- in a sound that's a bit other-worldly, especially when Fikret comes in with the lyrics! This CD brings together a variety of his best recordings from the early 70s, with notes in English that are a bit scattered, but kind of help put the odd music into context -- and the package features 15 titles that include "Yagmur Olsam", "Soyle Sazyim", "Gun Ola Devran Done", "Leylim Leylim", "Anadoluyum", "Yumma Gozun Kor Gibi", and "Haberin Var Mi".

1969 Dutch Blues/Garage/Psychedelic Rock

Reissue of perhaps the most psychedelic album by the Dutch band Q65, released in 1969 after they temporarily broke up in 1967. It's made up of singles and the last material recorded by the band. At times Revival sounds like Group 1850, as on "Voluntary Peacemaker" and the trippy mellotron and languid guitar based "Fairy Tales Of Truth". Excellent '60's Dutch psychedelia.

wich were more psychedelic and used lights shows
and wanted to make a performance for mind and body
and the that they sometimes sound like Group 1850 is because Circus had the same producer

Born in Tokyo in 1944. In 1964, while studying Spanish at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies he took off to Mexico. For two years he traveled throughout the United States and Europe. He started singing in the late 1960s, and made his debut with Jyan and Aoi Omokage in 1969. In 1971, he released the album, Kaikisen, which reached gold status but did not follow the folk music trend of the times, deciding to develop his own musical actvities. In 1988, he created the Inochi-no-Matsuri (Festival for Life). Thereafter, Inochi-no-Matsuri in Chang Mai, Thailand also took place in 1997 and 2002. Fall in 2003, he recorded his latest songs on themes like Love, Peace, life, Earth, Universe, and a Vision to Unfold the Future...and will continue to travel with his guitar strapped to his back

"Not unlike all the Occidental places in the world, Hong Kong also experienced the beat boom in the mid '60s. Many groups appeared at that time, and some of them left some great records that still today are very fresh and enjoyable. Names like The Mystics, Danny Diaz and the Checkmates, Joe Jr. and the Side Effects or many others took the Hong Kong youth by storm, but no doubt that the most cool and successful group was Teddy R0bin & the Playboys. They released four albums, one double album and a big number of 45s, from 1965 to 1969. The double album was a kind of 'greatest hits' and today it's one of the most rare and sought-after collector's items from Asia. Their music ranged, during all the time they were active, from '60s pop, beat, garage, fuzz-punk and psychedelia. formed in 1969; a band that blended west coast US psychedelic rock styles with modern Japanese folk and soft progressive rock.They featured drummer Takashi Matsumoto and bassisst Haruomi Hosono both ex-Apryl Fool.
Haruomi Hosono later formed Yellow Magic Orchestra
Matsumoto is now one of the most successful lyricists in Japan. Suzuki and Ohtaki also had long and varied careers.

Moby Grape and Buffalo Springfield among others were cited as their influencers.

This has been available much longer on various boots in inferior quality.
But the difference in soundquality of the old source and this new one could
not be bigger. From D- to A++.
The old source was taken from a 37 year old broadcast, which was
probably recorded with a mic in front of a transistor radio.
This one is a digital copy of the original pre-fm VPRO mastertape.
An amazing discovery that will fill many hearts with joy, I'm sure.

But it's not just the recording quality that makes this so outstanding.
The pretties were rawking like the devil was on their heels~~!
This recording makes the Stones live album "Get yer ya-ya's out"
sound like a tea party (sorry stonesfans!).
What an awesome rockband this was.
And what a shame they got so little recognition.

I maintained the titles that the original seed provided.

Magical Power Mako's discography consists of a heap of sonic interrogations, but as far as question marks go, Hapmoniym adds the largest amount of them to the pile. This five-CD box set is presented as the first of three such sets to be released. The material was recorded between 1972 and 1975 and first came out as a very limited edition in 1993. Each of the five discs contains one track of music ranging between 43 and 65 minutes in duration. Each track is its own album, with separate pieces all dumped onto the same index track, forcing you to listen to each disc in one sitting and consider it as a single, unbreakable entity. The range of music covered through the whole set is colossal, encompassing psychedelic folk, Krautrock, free improvisation, electronic music, and tape experiments. Each piece takes the form of a collage where the best and the worst (in ideas, performances, and sound quality) collide in a way that strongly evokes Faust's modus operandi. The music itself also shares similarities with Faust, but Mako's universe is nothing but his own, and Hapmoniym, if it has to be compared to another album, must be compared to his own 1975 sophomore effort Super Record. Another point of reference would be Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells (a snippet of which happens to find its way into the fifth piece). Shin jung hyun played his band questions with guest singers(Kim Chu-Ja,Song Man-Su,Park In-Su) at this live show. Recommendable songs are Side A4 and Side B1. Side A5 Funky Broadway is a cover song of Wilson Picket and great psychedelic improvisation!! and Side B has a only one song. The song is a cover song In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida of Iron Butterfly. This cover play of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida of Iron Butterfly is a legend, till now. I think that this live song is a best of best Korean psychedelic live Jam!! and great and very very nice noise feast.
Highly recommendable record!!

Excellent swedish psychedelic rock compilation released in early 2007

Baby Grandmothers were a short-lived Swedish band, but one of the most prolific and unique psychedelic, modal, experimental power-trios to emerge out of the Scandinavian psychedelic underground-scene in 1967.
Although hailing from Stockholm, Sweden they only released a single in Finland, which has since become one of the most sought after pieces of vinyl from the era.
Baby Grandmothers were formed out of the legendary R&B / beat band T-Boones in the summer of 1967. T-Boones are probably best known for their “At the club/King of the Orient” single which is one of the best, and most collectable, out of the Swedish garage beat-era. Guitar-wiz Kenny Håkansson joined the band in 1965and with the group down to a trio they drifted into the psychedelic sounds of the time and in August 1967 released the single “I Want You”, which definitely was the first hard-rock recording ever made in Sweden.
The band was then re-christened Baby Grandmothers by the co-founder of the newly opened psychedelic club Filips, for which he needed a house-band.
Filips was the legendary breeding ground for bands such as Hansson & Karlsson, Pärson Sound, as well as orgiastic all night jams with foreign luminaries such as Jimi Hendrix and the Mothers of Invention.
Baby Grandmothers also supported Jimi Henrix on his Swedish tour in 1968 and then turned into Mecki Mark Men, who became the first Swedish rock band to tour the US.
Founding member Kenny Håkansson went on to form the highly influential Kebnekajse, who created the Swedish electric folk psych sound.
This unique collection brings live-recordings made at Filips, their impossibly rare single and a rare live recording made in Finland. Painstakingly collected and researched by Dungen’s guitarist Reine Fiske. 16 page booklet.

but here is a album full of music by them,has excellent originals and cover versions(most of them in japanese except one)

The 60s garage/psych fan’s never-ending quest to uncover new and increasingly unusual musical artifacts, no corner of the globe has gone unscathed.
We’ve scoured the earth for records we didn’t even know existed, dug through tapes looking for unreleased anything, and traveled to foreign lands searching for rare indigenous pop sounds.
To date, one of the most eclectic and satisfying of musical finds has been the amazing Japanese 60s pop scene, nicknamed “Group Sounds” or G.S. for short.
Although it took years to get notice in the West, for Japanese teens, it was impossible not to get swept up in probably the most significant pop music revolution Japan has ever experienced. Among the leading G.S. groups was the Carnabeats, who formed in 1967 and released this album in 1968.
It’s really a great collection, containing some excellent and hard-hitting pop songs in Japanese, English, and sometimes a combination of the two.
Many of the songs on this album are absolutely frantic, with screamed vocals, violently aggressive fuzztone guitar, and breakneck drums.
As with most other Japanese 60s bands, the Carnabeats were a dangerous blend of the instrumental ferocity of the Ventures and the melodic pop sensibilities of the Beatles. Particularly excellent examples of this synergy include “Okay,” “Chu! Chu! Chu!,” and “Koi Wo Shiyoyo Jenny,” which was a big hit for the group.
Another of the better songs, “Sandy” boasts possibly the most aggressive fuzztone riff to emerge from the 60s.
In addition to strong original compositions, many fine covers are included, such as their Japanese language versions of the Great Scots’ “Give Me Lovin’,” and the Zombies “I Love You.” Their cover of the Animals’ “When I Was Young” is so menacing and disturbing that it might have made Eric Burdon think a little more positively of his own childhood, had he got wind of it back in 1968.

For the first time in more than six months i went shopping for new clothes
which was great!

but when i was searching for some t-shirts,i saw this t-shirt
(it had a different colour and different camel drawing on it)
and thought how sick can a persons mind be!
to think about making this.
don't they know how horrible cancer is!

i also mentioned this to some one who worked there,she also found it a horrible shirt
(some one she knew also had cancer) and always hid it somewhere in the rack where it was hard to find.
they should ban such t-shirts and lock up the person who made it!

i bought a Pink Floyd t-shirt,Che' Guevara t-shirt,The Clash sweater and two pair of baggy pants

BI KYO RAN is one of the most important Japanese Progressive Rock bands. Forming in the '70s, the legendary BI KYO RAN played with the bristling energy, intensity and aggression of KING CRIMSON mainly on the "Red" era, then alternately delicate and pastoral, with ample use of mellotron. The guitar sounds like a Fripp clone, although sometimes it gains a bit in originality. Despite the obvious cloning, the music is very well executed, and to complete the picture, a violinist is also featured. They are still active and most recently released "Anthology Vol. 1", a re-recording and updating of their earliest and best tunes. It features guitarist and leader Kunio Suma and drummer Masaharu Sato. Dynamic and impressive.

but this guy seems to be less known

Shuji Inaba is a Japanese avant-folk singer and guitarist who hasn't reached the same level of documentation as peers like Kan Mikami and Kazuki Tomokawa. No 13 CD box set for Shuji yet! And some might find the prospect of such a box set quite frightening -- a single disc of his raw acoustic guitar playing and whisper-scream vocalizations will be more than enough for a lot of folks. Others will find Inaba's Rapture Of Being Destroyed to be a harrowing yet compelling listen. With some tracks filled with stark outbursts from silence and others more 'song' like, this is a great record recommended for those who already dig the likes of Dead Raven Choir and the aforementioned Kan Mikami. This Last Visible Dog cd release comes with Inaba's poetic lyrics translated into English by Alan Cummings." -- Aquarius. Shuji has appeared on PSF records and has two releases on Planktone records. Similar to Kan Mikami and Kazuki Tomokawa. This CD includes a lyric sheet with translations by Alan Cummings.

"Before a small audience in the Five Pennies club in Tottori, west Japan, Shuji Inaba performs his first song, "To A Corpse", in a whisper verging on the inaudible. It's something like a shamanic prayer to wreathe his listeners in trance. An explosion of raw acoustic guitar heralds the onset of next, called "Modern Terrorism". The shaman offers his audience a journey: "Let's fly together to the dark side of the moon / A gaudy name for our epitaph." Inaba's delivery is dramatic in the extreme, as he gulps and gasps, his voice overwhelmed in emotion. The antithesis of a cool, know-it-all singer-songwriter, his Japanese antecedents would include the stylised chanting of medieval epics over the violently struck biwa lute, or the lectern-thumping passion of the Gidayu narrator in Bunraku puppet plays.
By his third song, Inaba is prepared to settle down into a recognisable song form, with metre and verses. This is a lament for the destruction of Hiroshima, a political ballad with clear kinship to the tragic Enka love songs beloved of Japanese karaoke bars. After this relatively restrained interlude, he follows his Hiroshima theme into "Uranium 235", a terrifying raw vision of people running amok to escape the return of the Enola Gay atom bomb. Thrashing his guitar, his vocal reduced on occasion to panic-stricken gibbering, Inaba is determined to put his listeners right through the experience.
Inaba comes fro Shimane, near Hiroshima, and lines up with Kan Mikami and Keiji Haino as a performer prowling the very edges of what is possible given a voice, a guitar and an audience. This is a verité recording of a club show, complete with long gabs between songs. The lyrics are provided in an English translation by Alan Cummings. The most effective track may be the exhausted ballad that follows in the wake of the harrowing "Uranium 235". "Let's play, let's be played with" -- Inaba is grappling with the dark side, maybe not of the moon, but of cute Japan."

Strawberry Path - these guys made only one album that I'm aware of, '
When the Raven Has Come To The Earth' [Philips, 1971].
It's a great slab of bluesy heavy psychedelic rock in a slight early progressive vein.
Some of it sounds a bit like funky Hendrix as filtered through New Zealand's Human Instinct. Drummer Hiro Tsunoda was previously in The Jacks and Foodbrain, and went on to Flied Egg
and Sadistic Mika Band [see above].
The album has been reissued on CD by
Hagakure.
There's also a CD of demo recordings, 'Smokin' Drug, Demo & Hotcake'
[Ain't Group Sounds], which I haven't heard.

so it looks like I'm cancer free.

the amputation went good,the stump looks great
most of the time i don't have that much pain
only phantom pain

next week Thursday i have to start my next chemo therapy session
but those are lighter and only are two nights long.

a quite good sounding live lp (originally 200 pressed in 1968)
a must have for fans of japanese psych and garage.
this reissue is limited to 500 copies.
it took some time for me to track this one down on slsk

most of the stuff is from their first album,but also contains one track from super session
but this version is superior (11 minute version of Battlefield in my head)

there are also some tracks wich dont apear on any album like:Daisy,Where and Gone My Yumiko

The Jacks were a 60's band from Japan who sang mostly in Japanese and didn't seem as fixated on America as the rest of the bands of the time
What you get is a pretty nice boot of this super rare, fan club only LP.
If you are expecting tons of over the top, crazed action you might be a bit perplexed.
What you get is an amazingly tight set of most of their hits with flashes of over the top guitar and vocals.
Very Japanese, very amazing.

Unlike every other band in Turkey, the three Hürel brothers (Feridun,Onur and Haldun) never played cover songs on stage or on record. Feridun who wrote the songs and sang, played a double-necked instrument : one neck for guitar, the other for saz." G.A. & J.D.

"One of the most interesting groups of Turkish progressive music, a legendary sound. 3 brothers, Onur, Haldun, Feridun Hurel: 3 Hur-El. Their first band was at 1966 "Istanbul 4".. Then 1970 3 Hur-El with their special sound. First LP 1972.

As an important differance, the three Hurel brothers didn't play cover songs or turkish music compositions. Feridun did the original composes and lyrics, and sang, also played a double-necked instrument : one neck for guitar, the other for turkish saz. Was a great combination. With special drums, percussions and combination of west-east instruments, they created a new synthesis. That was a great progressive sound of 70's, with great rhythms.

The Ro-d-ys were from the northern part of The Netherlands and were formed somewhere around 1965. The name Ro-d-ys was chosen after they heard there already was a band called The Rowdies.
There very first single, released in 1966 flopped saleswise but got a lot of airplay. Their lucky break came with the follow up single "Take Her Home" in 1967. The succes continued with their best known single "Just Fancy" which was a hit late summer/early autumn 1967. In 1968 more quality singles were met with increasing lack of succes and after one more failed attempt with the beautiful and haunting single "Winter Woman" early 1969 the group called it quits. They released two albums, "Just Fancy"in 1967 and "Earnest Vocation" in 1968.
If you like sixties rock with influences from The Beatles, The Kinks & The Yardbirds then this is it. This set is also perfect if you are a completist! All of The Ro-d-ys' singles, A- as well as B-sides and album tracks are collected on these two discs.
The bonus tracks are from the post Ro-d-ys era when the group after a lean period hitwise fused with a Dutch group called Zen who had a similar style and also had gone through some hard times.

I couldn't post for a long time because i got very sick after my fifth chemo session.

My temperature was somewhere around 39 degrees Celsius so i needed to get to the hospital
and get antibiotics and bags of blood(5 bags) and 2 bags of thrombocytes.

My Bone Marrow still isn't producing blood at the normal tempo.
so they are to afraid to give me the last chemo session(which would start Tuesday)
because it might be a big attack on me.

and their rescheduling lots of stuff like medical examinations to check if there are metastasis.

and the amputation will be somewhere between 12 and 17 feb.

i got back home yesterday.

Of the studio material,some is in a
heavy progressive vein [though leaning more towards an
oriental King Crimson in parts then their older style]

i got back from the hospital 2 days ago,i had finished my fifth chemo session.
most of the time it went well while having the chemo,except that i felt a bit a bit sick sometimes
but a accident happened and that really sucked!

it happened on the third day :
it was time to get my first chemo of that day(a strange looking' orange one)
and that one needs to get finished in lets say 5 minutest(otherwise you'll get burn injuries)
but for some reason the drip infusion didn't want to do it fast,but when it was almost finished
i felt pain in my (left) hand and it was red and didn't look good.
so they had to remove the drip infusion and give me a new one in the other hand.
they did all kinds of stuff to prevent that it got worse:icepacks and some kind of liquid ect...

but now everthing seems to be fine with my left hand.

It's difficult to unravel the deep historical mystery of these recordings although the date appears to be 1972 on the booklet. Having said that there is no great mystery about the greatness of the three long tracks on this disc! Minimal moody vocals don't interfere in the slightest with the incredible fuzz and wah-wah guitar solos, the groovy weird keyboards the monster drum solos or the oboe (!) Truly psychedelic songs with all the strangeness that non-Anglo approach to trippy music seems to engender with touches of Doors and early Hawkwind, if you need non-Asian reference points. 3 very long tracks (15 minutes + each) of tripped out jamming. 'My Job is to Make Rock Music in Korean Style'. Guitarist Shin Jung Hyun is considered the father of Korean rock music, his career beginning in the mid-50's playing at post-war US Army bases. During the late sixties and early seventies his garage bands Donkeys and Questions composed hit singles and provided backing for the popular female vocalists of the time, such as Kim Jung-Mi and the Pearl Sisters. But it is the 1972-1973 recordings with his psychedelic group The Men that gets the blood flowing of international rock music explorers. Due to commercial demands of the record labels, the original LP's were configured as a side of shorter, poppier tracks with guest singers, while the flip was where the band was allowed to 'stretch out'. World Psychedelia has selected three of the best of these longer excursions -- 'Beautiful Country', 'It's A Lie' and 'A Woman In The Mist' -- forty-four minutes of oil-emulsion-slide acid rock with fluid guitar, organ textures and an occasional ethnic woodwind to gently remind the listener that the origin is SK not SF.

Shin Jung Hyun was the undisputed master of Korean rock for a 20-year stretch that began in the late-'50s and lasted until the mid-'70s. He began performing professionally as early as 1955, and in 1962 he founded the group Add 4, who would be the very first Korean rock and roll band. Hyun was a tireless performer with a fascinating artistic evolution. As an enormously gifted and innovative guitar player with the capacity to be boldly experimental, he was able to easily master and mix together garage rock, surf rock, folk, pop, Korean traditional song and even psychedelia as the decade progressed into the '70s. He released scads of albums under varying configurations and was the backing band and musical director for countless Korean female pop sensations.

The record at hand was recorded with his group The Men and probably dates from around 1973. It's comprised of three wonderfully long psychedelic rock jams, and on every single song his rhythm section provides a chugging forward beat (imagine a Korean Neu! perhaps) over which Hyun and his cohorts play astonishingly inventive solos. The band will periodically drop out and Hyun will then chime in with his lovely sing/whispering and somehow turn a 20-minute extended jam into a pop tune.

In 1975 Park Jung-Hee, the president of South Korea's then military regime, demanded that Shin Jung Hyun record a song in praise of the South Korean residential palace; he refused and recorded a song lauding the beauty of Korea's rivers and mountains instead. He was promptly arrested on trumped up charges of marijuana use and was banned from playing or recording until the mid-'80s at which point he only had a few more years left to live

Saturday i got home.and the time i had the chemo were excellent
i almost didnt feel bad at all.and it felt like the time flew.
and thank god im home again,i feel excellent,i never felt so good before in the first week after the chemo.

yesterday dirk went back to the hospital for his fourth chemo sessions, his chemo is cauld a d.i.m.e cure it is very heavy chemo, a young boby can handle only 6 sessions, so heavy is this chemo. older people can not have it, because it is so dame hard, but i can tell you dirk is handling it okee with the help off GOD, whe feel his pressents, he is helping us to keep this true. so pleace pray for him he needs it very hard. he finds postcards and precends very fine it pulls him true his adress is

va- Take a Walk on the Psychedelic Side (Late 60s--early 70s Japanese soundtrack music)

Take A Walk On The Psychedelic Side clearly references the urban cine-grit conjured by Edward Dymytrk's 1962 film Walk On The Wild Side with its score by Elmer Bernstein. But the mutation into Ôpsychedelic' aptly orients the listener to the wholly psychotic bent of Japanese sex and violence movies at the end of the 60s. Fuzz-wah lines slice through otherwise conventional pulp crime-soaked arrangements. Track titles lifted from the original cues give a sense of what's going on: "Trip Rock", "Jet Screaming Machine", "Sympathy For The Rebel", "Dirty Girlie", "Last Tattoo". The back cover image of two Japanese guys conducting some bizarre mind-torture experiment on a middle-aged American adds to the sensationalism heard on all these tracks.

But sometimes a tornado in England may lead to the flaps of a butterfly’s wings in Japan, such as in this case. And what a beautiful butterfly it is. No, wait, beautiful isn’t the word I’m looking for. How about dark, brooding, menacing…

The first two Black Sabbath albums turned the Japanese band Blues Creation upside down. Formerly a typically psych tinged blues-rock band, the new sound of rock manifested itself through their brilliant and criminally obscured Demon & Eleven Children. What starts with a soundtrack to a nuclear holocaust and ends with a rightfully impending end of days feel to it, is often heralded as the album which laid the foundations for Japanese Doom, alongside Flower Travellin’ Band’s Satori.

Kazuo Takeda, guitar player and man of vision behind Blues Creation, was kind enough to answer a few questions.

i got back from the hospital yesterday
got no fever anymore,looks like the antibiotics treated it good,but i still have to take antibiotic pills.
next week tuesday my 4th chemo session.
after that i get two more sessions in january,and then a operation(amputation)

but now some music:

this one is very good,has shinki chen (with his 60s band Power House) on one track
and doesnt contain any of their orchestrated commercial stuff

The Golden Cups-Super Live Session(69 Japan)

Ultra Rare original 1st Pressing on Red Vinyl of their 4th and rarest LP. Recorded Live at Yokohama "Zen" this is probably their best LP , a perfect transition from Heavy Garage to Fuzzed out Bluesy Psych and a killer LP from beginning to end without any of their sappy hits. Supposedly has Shinki Chen helping out on guitar and by the sound of this Lp I would't doubt it. "Born Under a bad sign" "59th Street Bridge Song" a great version of the Artwoods "One More Heartache" , one of the best versions of Donovan's "Season of the Witch" "Zen Blues" a totally fuzzed out instro version of "Gloria" and others.. {popsike.com}

here some news from his mom,
yesterday dirk went to the hospital to check up his blood level, after the chemo, and yes it was okee , but into the evening he developed a high fever, and this morning the fever wash high again so we called the hospital , they said you have to come because they dont wont to take any risk and whe neither. so we went en yes very shit he had to low bloodlevel and he he has a bad cold and inflammation into his jaw, so he has to stay again in the hospital.

today they starded with antybioticis en tomorrow he is going to get two bags off blood whe hope he gets well fast so he can come home monday or tuesday, 19 december he has to start his fourth chemo session, and than two more his chemo is called D.i.m.e THEY ARE VERY HEAVY in february at the end off these chemo. he is going tho have an amputastion off hiss legg, about have his upperlegg, after that he needs 8 more chemo sessions, only these are less heavier sessions

it has been some time but here is some rare Japanese psychedelic rock.hass a member of flied egg in it.

its a excellent album,i can assure you all will like it.
its westcoast style psych with some folk and prog thrown in

it seems very rare,but the guys at shadoks where able to track this great album down

some information

The original private pressing from Japan was so far one of the unsolved mysteries which appeared first in the 3001 book from Hans Pokora. It´s so rare that it took nearly 2 years to locate the album. This is Masayoshi Takanaka`s (pre Flied Egg) ever first recording, released as a tiny private pressing in Japan.
The music is westcoast orientated hard psych with a progressive touch. All original material and really wellproduced. This is a concept album (like Ceremony) which comes (like the original) on blue vinyl with 24 page massive booklet.
Kudos to Shadoks for searching this one out! We'd never have heard it otherwise, and we're glad we did. Dude from early '70s Japanese psychedelic proto-metallers Flied Egg (who sounded a bit like Blue Cheer, and recorded for Vertigo!), by the name of Masayoshi Takanaka, made his recording debut in 1971 (yup) with this rare rare rare album of underground hippy conceptual weirdness, called Brush!? (punctuation theirs, but deserved). Quite a few other Japanese psych scenesters of the day participated as well. Results? There's some truly freaked out shit here, and some really lovely, folky parts too.
It's an eclectic mix of the following ingredients, and more: acid fuzz guitar rockin', atonal electronic experiments, gentle pop grandeur, organ drones, raga-like jamming, avantgarde piano improv, Velvets/Dylan balladry, and West Coast/Woodstock Nation psych.

In other words, all over the place, and pretty darn tripped out!! Hearing reissues of interesting '70s Japanese psych acts like Brush!?, Flied Egg, Far Out, Foodbrain, Strawberry Path, Les Rallizes Denudes, etc. etc. it's clear that all the great psychedelic underground outfits active in Japan today, from Acid Mothers Temple to LSD-march to Green Milk From The Planet Orange to (of course) the Boredoms, are keeping alive a grand tradition begun some 30+ years ago!

Includes 20 page cd booklet full of all kinds of cool photos and drawings and lyrics (many of 'em in English).
Seriously, we're pretty sure that if you could just take one look inside this cd booklet, you'd want to hear the album! On one of the tracks, in addition to musician credits for sitar and tabura [sic], we see this: "Lafing [sic]: Elf, Fairly [sic], Goblin." and "Effects: Crow, Raven, Fowl, Triton." WTF?? The song titles are good too: "All Most Cut Your Hair (including) I Did Cut My Hair", "Die A Dog's Death (In Vain)", and "Tomb Stone".

The tracks are 'Do what you must' and 'How do I feel today'. The former was band-written, whilst 'How do I feel today' was written by Dave McTavish [who wrote both sides of the Deram 45], and was supposed to be the follow-up to the first single, but got shelved as the deal with Deram ended.

Boeing Duveen & The Beautiful Soup "Jabberwock/Wich Dreamed It" single

Boeing Duveen & the Beautiful Soup made just one single, the 1968 release "Jabberwock"/"Which Dreamed It" -- but what a single it was. The A-side was one of the best and most unusual British psychedelic obscurities, with its zany, menacing setting of the Lewis Carroll tale to music. The melody was at once bouncy and ominous, the vocal like that of a mad storyteller, and the arrangement spruced up by weird laughter and screams in the background. The flip side was, in comparison, a pretty mundane piece of period raga-rock. "Jabberwock" has been reissued on several collector-oriented psychedelic compilations, as has to a lesser degree the flip side. The story behind the real identity of Boeing Duveen is perhaps even stranger than the single itself. Boeing Duveen was Sam Hutt, known to the British '60s counterculture as a "rock & roll doctor" who administered to rock musicians and practiced homeopathy and holistic medicine, as well as dealing with drug casualties at festivals. Although he remained a doctor, he also continued doing music for decades, though switching to country & western sounds under the pseudonym Hank Wangford
