October Cherries-Dreamseller

1972 Singapore Psychedelic Pop
@320 kbits (Vinyl Rip?)

this one was requested some time ago
decent Beatelesque psych pop, this album is quite rare.
this is the only vinyl rip i could find, and one track is damaged
my fav. tracks are Dreamseller and Bad Trip.
overall a good addition to the collection of psych pop freaks.
the album was recorded in belgium.
and got released there by EMI Europe,Baal Records did the asian
release.

some info:
NCREDIBLE Beatles-inspired pop psych masterpiece by the October Cherries, "Dreamseller" and subtitled "A Work of Magic by the October Cherries". Now it may take quite a bit of nerve and confidence to subtitle your album "a work of magic", but in this case, the Cherries knew what they were talking about. This MONUMENTAL album is indeed magical - a long-lost Malaysian Magical Mystery Tour that so few people have ever heard - and anyone who loves the tuneful orchestrated UK popsike sounds of bands like the Bee Gees, Idle Race, Beatles and all the Rubble comp bands will LOVE this album too. Granted, it didn't get released until 1972, long after their particular sound was way out of style in England, but in Signapore, they were superstars.
This LP is filled with really incredible Beatlish psych. Good tunes, playing, arranging, psychedelic bits. Just incredible

Hi Dirk,
I am a avid fan of October Cherries since they know as Surfers. You can find more on their site www.octobercherries,com.
There are two version on the Dreamseller LP. The cover for the Europe market are different from the Asia/American market. Their only Top 10 hit in Holland" All things work together.." is not feature on the Europe's Dreamseller LP. It's was replaced by "Muddy Water".
They also had a original album before this LP which entitle "Meet the October Cherries"
They also has aself compose album under Jade & Pepper - Title as Something I like about you. Other than the mentioned they have few LPs which doing cover on the Chart hits on that times between 1971 to 1977.

Hi Dirk ,
The LP cover that you'd include together with the write up is the Asia/South American version.

Thank you Dirk for this one! It's funny how the reviews call albums like this a lost masterpiece when at best I would call it a good decent listen. Still I guess you couldn't have shared a harder to find album than this so thank you very much.

Hi again Dirk,
I notice the TIME TRAVELER blog http://bryonsplace.blogspot.com/ is sharing an album by TRUCK from Malaysia that has some of the same songs as the OCTOBER CHERRIES Lp but they are re-makes with a synth added. I guess they changed their name to Truck which isn't a very inspired choice but their album is pretty good. If you like this one you'll like that one too!
Thanks,

Hi Smile67,
The Truck was form after Peter Diaz, October Cherries Lead Guitarist/Vocalist left the group while they had a concert in India and joined Pebble , Belgium pop group. All songs of this album were abtracted and modified from the OC "Dreamseller" and "Meet the OC" LPs. That's why all vocal is done by Jermiah Stars who is none other than Jay Shotam, who played Bass, Synthesizer and also handle all the lead vocal on this LP. That's the reason why Peter's voices and guitar work not on this LP.
So Truck line-up are Jay Shotam, Richard Khan (Drum) and Benny Siew ( Guitar) with production by Balram Shotam/Jay Shotam (Brother Production). With the same lineup and using the pre-recorded backup music that Peter Diaz had recorded. They alo produced a LP under Funkgus entitlt "Man with a man" which also feature in Han Pokora 1001 records Collector Dreams.

Hi, I was the original requestor of this album some weeks back so I just wanted to say thanks. Somehow I had the idea that this was more Revolver-era Beatles influenced but I find it in more of a (pre-disco) Bee Gees/Emmitt Rhodes mode. But it's a nice listen nonetheless. Thanks again.

Hi Dirk,
I did check thru the song that's for download on this October Cherries Dreamseller. You were right on all song were extracted from the Europe version which contained the "Muddy water" and " All things work together.." which was their top 10 hits in Holland at that time was omitted from this European Version

Just with the genre name this is a mystery to me. I can't quite imagine how it is this psychedelic pop music! Nothing like SGT. Pepper, I guess.

Hallo Dirk,

Heb jij ook goede opnames van Jade & Pepper? Een kennis van mij uit Maleisie zoekt drie songs van ze. Hij is ook fan van de October Cherries.
