The Outsiders-The Outsiders['67 Dutch beat]

Highly Recommended!
Essential

i actually wanted to post Revolution by Q'65
but i discovered that mine is in complete
so here's the debut by The Outsiders
i posted their second one CQ sometime ago

some information:
I don't know one single fan of sixties garage / beat music who doesn't love the Outsiders. But despite being one of the best bands of their period and huge national following, they never achieved the international success they deserved

1967 saw the release of the first Outsiders' album. This self- titled LP has to be heard to be believed! Side A features five killer (and previously unreleased) live tracks. The first song ("Story 16") consists of the same slow, tormenting riff played over and over with Wally raucously singing and playing harmonica, leading to a frantic finale. The rest of the side features Wally back to his typical mood, a "latent violence" tour de force designed to drive the listener mad! The studio side, again, is a series of classics, alternating slow and faster-paced numbers. The same year the band released 4 singles the second of which, "Summer Is Here / Teach Me To Forget You", reached the Dutch top ten

Datetenryu-Datetenryu['71 Japan Psychedelic Prog- Rock]

Highly Recommended
and do leave comments and click my
banners(on the right)
i got this one from Lizardson by email(from japan)
excellent Progresive Psychedelic Rock
their guitarist was a les rallizes denudes member
and also played in the band Brain Police (Zunou Keisatu)
this album is quite rare, and i never saw it on soulseek
or any other p2p programs

some info:
Funky bass, swirling keyboards, melodic riffs, epic, soaring solos -- Japan's Datetenryu sports all the hallmarks of the notorious psychedelic prog-rock genre. And well it should: This group from the Kansai area (Osaka/Kobe/Kyoto) dates back to 1971, and is considered a prog progenitor in its native land. The band -- which was named after a racehorse (Datetenryu loosely translates as "cool flying dragon")
an underground band formed in 1971. They apparently played a kind
of psychedelic progressive rock with blues touches. Guitarist Hiroshi Narazaki was also in Brain Police and Les Rallizes Denudes . There are numerous CDs available covering recordings from 1971-1981, but I don't think they released any albums at the time. The only CDs I have titles for are 'Datetenryu' [rec. 1971], 'Unto' [Belle Antique, 1978/1997?; out of print] and 'Red Afternoon Blues' [Walking Press Records, 2004]

Les Rallizes Denudes-67-69 Studio Et Live[Japan]

Highly Recommended do leave comments!
the earliest les rallizes denudes recordings
excellent quality

This heavy guitar-based psychedelic band had their beginnings at Kyoto University in late 1967 with their first gig in 1968 - a song from which is featured on the 67-69 Studio et Live CD. While their recordings from this early period are still relatively controlled their live shows reputedly featured massive volume and the use of strobe lights and mirror balls to extreme levels, something that can be seen on the Les Rallizes Denudes video and heard on the 77 Live CD. Obviously this brings to mind comparisons with the Velvet Underground and their Plastic Exploding Inevitable. The ESP label and the San Francisco bands of that era have also been referenced here. It seems the volume was too much for some - a relationship with an avant-garde theatre group between 1968-69 fell apart due to the excess of Rallizes' sound.

All songs & Musics by Mizutani
All arrangements by Les Rallizes Denudes

Les Rallizes Denudes :
(in kyoto)Mizutani Takashi : Vocal/Electric side & fuzz guiter
Kato Takashi: Drums & All percussions
Tada Takashi: Bass guitar (Lead guitar in "Tori-no-koe")
Matsumoto Tsutomu: Drums (Track's:3.4.5.6.7)

Love Live Life + One-Love Will Make A Better You['71 Rare Japan Avant-Psych Rock]

another rare gem wich has been re-issued on P-Vine
and out of press
thanks to R. Li for sharing this with me
its a awesome advantgarde psych rock album

There were several progressive psychedelic groups in Japan in the early '70s, including the short-lived Love Live Life + One. They played a handful of live shows and only released one LP in 1971, but that record, Love Will Make a Better You, is considered one of the classics of early Japanese psychedelia.

Not too much documentation exists about Love Live Life + One, a group of nine musicians. The "Plus One" seems to refer to vocalist Akiri Fuse, who had been singing pop music since the mid-'60s and appearing on LPs since 1967. Otherwise, Love Live Life consisted of Hiro Yanagida on keyboards and organ and Kimio Mizutani on electric guitar, as well as K. Ichihara on flute and sax, T. Yokota on flute and soprano sax, T. Naoi on guitar, M. Terakawa on bass, C. Kawachi on drums, and N. Kawahara on percussion.

Most of these musicians are obscure, except for Yanagida and Mizutani, who have had wider musical careers in other psychedelic groups. Prior to Love Live Life, Mizutani was in the band People, with the rare 1970 LP Ceremony -- Buddha Meet Rock, and the same year that Love Will Make a Better You came out, he released his solo album, A Path Through Haze. Yanagida also released a solo album in 1971 called Milk Time. Prior to Love Live Life + One he was a member of the highly acclaimed Foodbrain, which released the album Social Gathering in 1970, and he was also in Strawberry Path, whose record When the Raven Has Come to the Earth came out the same year as Love Will Make a Better You.

Love Live Life's only record, like the other albums mentioned above, is a mix of blues-based psychedelic music that pushes into progressive and even avant-garde realms, while the skronky sax playing even recalls the edgier end of the jazz spectrum. The record was self-released in small quantities, and contained a side-long improvised piece with hippie poetry over very free-form music, with more song-oriented material on the flip side. The group did not last much longer after the LP was finished. The original album is extremely rare, but has since been reissued on LP as well as CD with a bonus live track.

Brast Burn-Debon['75? Japan Experimental Rock]

another one from the nurse with wound list
Highly Recommended

The best lost Krautrock album ever
....by a japanese group
Friends of mine have always come up with some corking descriptions: 'Damo Suzuki on Crack' , 'James Brown in Space' and er...'Shaun Ryder's Dad'!
[acording to headheritage.co.uk]

and i can agree to it,while Magical Power Mako(another good band) did it quite good,
they do it a bit better with these two lenghty 22 minute long
musical trips
it is believed that these band had connections/shared members with another group: Karuna Khyal
wich i sadly dont have listened to

a must listen
and must be played loud(or listen with headphones) to totally enjoy this musical trip

Quite an unbelievable find! This mysterious record has lain undiscovered since the mid seventies when (it is guessed) it was recorded by a group of unknown Japanese musicians and then released privately by Voice records. Rumours of the greatness of this psychedelic masterpiece have circulated for years (largely propagated by Nurse With Wounds famously obscure "list" on which Brast Burn feature) and it has finally seen re-release in a beautiful hand numbered CD issue of just 500. So, now that it's available what's it actually like? Well,... it's simply astonishing. Split into two long sequences, the music runs right up to the edge of sanity and screams wordlessly in the face of madness then jogs back to a lone hill top to lazily invent the form of psychedelic acid folk that Ghost have made an entire career from. There is utterly freaked out, acid-drenched genius at work on this record. Strains of Kraut rock run throughout, Can, and particularly Damo Suzuki's vocal style, are certainly valid comparisons, but this music really does seem to be running a race of its own, clouded in pot smoke, and headed in the wrong direction but glorious while doing it. Highly Recommended.

J.A Caesar-Death in the Country['74 Japan Avantgarde "Folk")

Recommended!
do leave comments!
we continue with folk

next week i will have some heavier stuff(Les Rallizes Denudes ect...)

today its J.A. Caesar /J.A Seazer, yes im not lying
lots of people wanted music by him
so here's his album Death in the Country
from 1974,a more "folkish" album,but strange.and very good(imho)
some what reminiscent of the lesser rocking folky parts of the tokyo kid brothers (wich he was in) album
but the track Wasan rocks quite good

there's also an excellent Kan Mikami track(Karasu)
who also has a role in the movie,he's also on some other tracks

J.A. Caesar [a.k.a. J.A. Seazer]
this guy was a graphic design student, who
adopted the name J.A. [Julius Arnold] Caesar
often also found spelled Seazer and even Ceazar
[just to confuse internet searches even further!],
and was known by the late 60's as one of the few 'true hippies'
on the local scene.
He apparently won a competition for hair length!
He gravitated to Shuji Terayama's
Tenjo Sajiki underground experimental theatre company
and despite lack of any previously evident musical talent quickly
became the musical director,
composing and performing the music for most of Tenjo Sajiki's films
and plays. Alongside this, he also staged his own musical 'recitals'.
His music often featured elements of Japanese percussion,
'sekkyobushi narrative music',progressive and psychedelic rock
,raw heavy rock, and other influences as
diverse as Carl Orff and Pierre Henry
[so says Alan Cummings, anyway, on those
last two].
The pick of this bunch is the soundtrack to Terayawa's 1974 film Den'en Ni Shisu (Death In The Country). Described as a fictional autobiography, it tells of a sensitive adolescent poet who later becomes a film director, stuck with his neurotic mother in a rural northern backwater, who dreams of running off first with a neighbour's wife and then with a traveling freakshow. The film's fractured narrative of awakening sexuality and severing of parental bonds is captured in hallucinatory imagery and an equally ambitious soundtrack by JA Caesar, which binds the whole film together with a subtle, subconscious logic. The deployment of disparate elements in an all-consuming flow, which works even independently of the images, is masterly. The familiar psych guitar, organ and choral chanting are heavy enough in places - as on the disc's definitive reading of Caesar's massive and haunting 'Wasan' - to approach Sabbath levels of dense pounding, and there's also a frighteningly visceral vocal turn from folk singer Kan Mikami. But the score also sees Caesar expanding his instrumental palette, scoring some tracks for sideshow brass band or gently plucked guitar, weeping violin and chant. The weird intervals of his sparse, medieval-influenced melodies linger in the memory with the force of nostalgia for a past not directly experienced. It's an amazing performance: from street hippy who'd never picked up an instrument to film soundtrack composer in five years. Caesar's soundtrack for Den'en Ni Shisu lost out by a single vote to Toru Takemitsu for the best film soundtrack of 1974." - Alan Cummings, The Wire.

Kazuki Tomokawa-Dance A Bonodori Alone['95 Japan Avantgarde-Folk]

Excellent (Advantgarde?) folk
was introduced to this guy yesterday
some one advised to check it out
this guy is making music since the 70's

Kazuki Tomokawa
is a prolific Japanese acid-folk singer, poet, and often described as a "screaming philosopher" due to his idiosyncratic singing style. His music has been used in the films of cult directors Takashi Miike and Koji Wakamatsu, and he also appears in person in Miike's Izo (2004).[wikipedia]

Fifth CD on PSF by Tomokawa; including Moto Yoshizawa (bass) and Toshi Ishizuka (perc.; Cinorama). Emotionally flayed acoustic chant exorcisms by a master; English listeners who've had trouble getting into Tomokawa might want to try again here; this is avant-folk expression like little you've ever heard before, and the opening track (title track) would have to go on any best of PSF sampler you'd want to put together.

Video with Keiji Haino on Bass(1979)

Happy End was a Japanese folk rock band that existed between 1970 and 1973 and also the title of a Bertolt Bretch operatta set in 1915 Chicago. The play was staged at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York City in 1977 starring Christopher Lloyd, Meryl Street and Grayson Hall.

San Ul Lim-Vol 2: As Laying Carpet on My Mind['78 Korea Psychedelic Rock]

Heavily Recommended!
do leave comments

excellent Korean Psychedelic Rock
one of the less i know,
the other would be
Shin Joong Hyun & The Men who where earlier(around 72?)
but personally i like San Ul Lim/San Ul Rim more
they have a garage psych sound, while they claim that they had never heard had listened to Garage Rock and Punk Music their first record(wich i don't have) sold five hundred thousands copies in the week they released it
5 months later they recorded their second album
they found their musical style on this album they added organ on this album(played by their sister)
all tracks are tagged with the Korean titles
a text file with English titles is available

No review available,so some here a short biography
San Ul Rim are the most famous hobby band (“naughty rock band) in South-Korea.
Most Korean rock specialists say that San Ul Rim's music is not connected with previous Korean rock groups.

One day they just appeared on the Korean rock scene. They are brothers, Kim Chang Wan is the group leader (Lead vocals and guitar) and eldest brother, Kim Chang Hun is the second eldest, a bass guitar player, youngest bother is a Kim Chang Ik and he is a drummer.
They were born out of a rich family in Seoul. Thanks to that they could buy the necessary rock instruments. At first Kim Chang Wan bought an acoustic guitar and Classical guitar guide book’ when he was a university freshman.

Thanks to that the other brothers could learn the guitar. Their parents said that they were going to buy a piano as an entrance gift, if Chang Hun entered the university. But did not didn'’t like it because it was too feminine. And they asked to their parents to give me a set of rock band musical instruments instead. Therefore they could get a drum set, two amps, and two guitars. After that they often played their own rock songs weekly. I believe they just enjoyed the brother gem for about four years!!
In 1977 there was held the first University student song contest. They were interested in the contest and joined in the preliminary hearing of it and their song came to the first class in the preliminary hearing but fell off at the main contest because Kim Chang Wan graduated at the time. Although they fell off at the main contest, they discovered their self confidence.
Before they participated in the contest, their band name was A Mu-Lee (meaning that “Be not different).

The band name San Ul Rim (means That Mountain echo) was made by Kim Chang Wan, impromptu, when their first album was released.
Especially the most important thing is that not only Korean music fans but also Korean music mania outside Korea had been wildly excited by their music

People-Ceremony:Buddha Meet Rock['71 Japan Rare Prog Psych Rock]

RECOMMENDED!
AND DO LEAVE COMMENTS!
Another rare record from japan
this one has the excelent guitar player
Kimio Mizutani on it(if you didnt download his solo album from here,do it now!)
a trippy progresive psych album

I’m not sure if these guys actually existed as a performing band, or if they were only a studio super-session project. Guitarist Kimio Mizutani had previously [or simultaneously, or shortly after?] played with Love Live Life + One and Masahiko Satoh’s Sound Brakers . At any rate, their sole album, the concept piece ‘Ceremony – Buddha Meet Rock’ [Teichiku, 1971], is an absolute classic. The album came with extensive liner notes elaborating on the intended meaning for each track – the whole album flowing more or less as a conceptual whole. As the title would suggest, it was an attempt to fuse a Buddhist-influenced spiritual vibe into an innovative oriental form of hypnotic psychedelic progressive rock. It’s all quite unique and doesn’t sound like any preceding groups that I’m aware of, though some bits are like a much less-heavy Flower Travellin’ Band circa ‘Satori’. It’s a bit jazzy in places, hinting at some of Stomu Yamash’ta’s work with Come to the Edge.
There’s lots of nice fuzz guitar leads and overall, a very sanctified vibe that makes this a deep but groovy experience.
The album has been reissued on both CD and LP. Following this , Mizutani recorded his equally great solo album
(wich i posted some time ago)

The Zipps-Be Stoned:Dig The Zipps[Dutch Psychedelic Beat]

Excelent dutch psych beat from my my country
to bad they didnt include the uncensored version of Marie Juana, wich seems to be availible on some rare repress of a single

Finally, after years of waiting, one of the most important Dutch '60s psych bands get all of their singles compiled onto one disc! The Zipps made some incredible 7" records and they are all here including, "Marie Juana" (the best dope song ever written), "Lotus Love", "Kicks and Chicks" and the bizarre "The Struggle For Ice-Cold Milk Of Benzi The Bassplayer Or How To Promote Original Dutch Milk". A unique style that mixed beat with all the bands own unique take on psychedelia. CD has extra tracks![freakemporium.com]

In the autumn of 1965, the Zipps were formed in Dordrecht, The Netherlands. Peter Nuyten (guitar) and John Noce Santoro (drums) came from the guitar group, The Moving Strings.
Philip Elzerman (vocals, guitar, harmonica) and Jan Bek (vocals) came from the skiffle group Beat Town Skifflers, while Theo Verschoor (bass) came from The Twilights.
Singer Jan Bek quit before the first single ("Roll The Cotton Down" / "Highway Gambler") was released on the Op-Art label in February 1966.
Because of their psychedelic sound and Zeta-light-show, The Zipps became known as the 'Dutch Pink Floyd'.
In interviews, Philip Elzerman openly advocated the use of illicit drugs, particularly marijuana and LSD-25. One of their most popular live numbers, in fact, was titled "LSD-25", though, unfortunately, it was never released as a single. During concerts, purple stickers with the phrase "Be Stoned! Dig: Zipps Psychedelic Sound" were handed out to fans.

Tokyo Kid Brothers-Throw Away The Books, Let's Go Into the Streets('71 Japan Rare Rock)

Heavily RECOMMENDED!
And its very rare
but hard to catogorise because its quite diverse
so i'll name it 'Rock'

Impossibly obscure 1971 release by the theatrical troupe led by
Tenjo Sajiki that would later become known as J.A. Caesar

Imagine
the musical "Hair" staged on acid. Oh, it was?
Yeah, well then so
was "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In". OK, imagine the musical "Hair" staged on really great acid, greatly upping the boogie ante, and produced by Magma! This and their other album earned them a spot on that ridiculous Nurse With Wound "list". Wondrously
psychedelic, yet quaintly earnest in a plaintive sort of way that
makes me so very happy that I don't understand Japanese

Part of julian cope review:
Tokyo Kid Brothers was a visionary dance troupe full of actors, musicians, strategists and self-proclaimed shamen. Legendary shouter Kan Mikami had journeyed south from the same part of Northern Japan as Japanese theatres underground legend Shuji Terayama. In the mid-60s, they had both developed within and moved away from the scene which spawned them to create their very own thing. Yutaka Higashi had come to join them after dropping out of Tokyos Waseda University. Then, in 1968, his own vision prompted him to split and form Tokyo Kid Brothers, a rocknroll dance and theatre troupe who looked like an ingrown hippy take on West Side Story.
Tokyo Kid Brothers didnt make enough records to secure more than a stowaways free ride in the luggage hold of rocknroll history, but their vicious combination of fuzzbuster guitar, Psychedelic Underground-period Amon Duul female chorale, yatter-natter tween song chatter, and smart alliances with other Japanese underground heroes will, in the long term, guarantee them more real longevity than this first review can even begin to imagine.
Indeed, I know of only one other Tokyo Kid Brothers LP, and even thats currently unavailable. But scour the nether recesses of Japanese late 60s theatre and youll find the same musical themes of this LP cropping up all over. For it seems to be the way with this underground theatre scene that all was interlinked.
They shouldnt be judged on their records alone because they were much more than that. But in the absence of visual evidence, they must be. So its to their credit that Tokyo Kid Brothers still sounds like essential listening.

Girls In The Garage:Oriental Special(60's Asian Girl Garage Rock)

please click the b a n n e r s
and leave comments

For all people who love Garage rock or rock bands with girls
on vocals
a cool compilation of all-girl garage/pop bands from asia
mostly from signapore and Malaysia or southeast Asia
there's not that much information availible on these bands
something different than the most asian stuff i post

Rita & The Quests are probably the best known artists on this comp. The Quests were Singapores biggest group, they made it to the top of the charts with their mostly instrumental pop. They also made Singapores first stereo-LP, which says something about their popularity. And, one might add, it probably also says something about the state of Singapores record-industry in the mid-sixties. Rita was added to the group later as one of several vocalists, Sakura is another vocalist that performed with the Quests. Not surprisingly this was a move by the record-company to profit on the popularity of The Quests. Rita sings popular songs of the time in mandarin. Rita also did a lot of movies, and she is apparently not a bad actress at all.

This very special volume of Girls In The Garage consists of some gems found in various junk and flea markets in Singapore. There must have been a big market in the '60s for cover bands. We suspect that these groups would have toured or had residencies in the big hotels of South-East Asia and had local hits of easternized versions of western songs. This package consists of some interesting, fun and hilarious lyrical content (incorrect gender references, a mix of English and Asian lyrics in the same song, bad translations) and some wild sounds (strange production, vocals that sound like they were processed through a wah-wah pedal). The cover art consists of full-color reproductions of the original, colorful and very interesting record sleeves! We guarantee that any fan of '60s music will be thoroughly entertained by our Oriental Special!

Xhol Caravan-Motherfuckers GMBH & Co. KG,(1972 experimental Krautrock]
One year later, the band changed their name to just Xhol to avoid confusion with the more famous British band. Their followup, Motherfuckers GMBH & Co. KG, shows the band's total disregard for anything commonly accepted. Not released until 1972 (by the legendary underground Ohr label), though recorded two years before, Xhol had clearly moved away from their fusion roots to a more avant-garde electronic approach. The highlight has to be the haunting 9½ minute "Orgel Solo", which could've just as easily been on Tangerine Dream's groundbreaking Electronic Meditation album. In fact, much of this album has the feel of the Kraut underground, that of mixing avant electronic structures with rock sounds and energy. The primary instruments are flute and organ with plenty of hand percussion. Very psychedelic. The exception is the 13 minute insane version of "Love Potion 25", not exactly what one would call a cover tune of the old classic! Available on CD (pressed by the French label Spalax). The LP only exists as an original (Ohr) and is quite expensive.

Magical Power Mako-Selftitled['74 Japan Psychedelic folk Rock]

Recommended!
Debut album by this multi-instrumentalist
probably one of my favourite's after Super Record(but Jump is also good)
this one contains some more folk then the previous one i posted
Excelent psychedelic folk rock album!

This first self titled album was released in 1974 and features Keiji Haino as a guest vocalist (credited here as Kei-chan, on two tracks, "Restraint, Freedom" and "Look Up The Sky"). This one features just the "Polydor" logo on the front cover and is an all-time classic of Faust-referrential underground status.

the debut effort from multi-instrumentalist Magical Power Mako, offers a similar rejection of conventional rock to what Krautrock bands were undergoing, though filtered through a Japanese rather than European sensibility. The album veers wildly and creatively in styles as one track flows into the next, from gentle folk on the first half of "Flying" to psychedelic rave-ups like "Restraint, Freedom" and the end of "Look up the Sky," to even more experimental extremes with the disturbing tape collage of "American Village 1973," though throughout there floats a cosmic vibe. Some tracks, like "Tsugaru" and "Shukuyakushi Nenbutsu Kanehari," weave traditional Japanese folk music into Mako's skewed vision. The sweet chorus of children singing to a relaxing piano on "Open the Morning Window" is almost too cute; fortunately, there's plenty of demented moments, like the pounding and screaming on "In a Stalactite Cavern Astonaus" and the hilarious and upbeat "Cha Cha," to make up for it. The eccentric Magical Power Mako would go on to make many more records, but this opening salvo of his psychedelia shows him already at the top of his game.

Magical Power Mako-Jump['77 Japan Psychedelic Rock]

Recommended!
a early post today, lately its a pain in the ass to update in the evening(around a hour of 9/10)
3rd & final Polydor album for Mako, from 1977. A little more prog, a lot more face-paint.[forced exposure]
i was going to post his debut, but i discovered that that one was incomplete
getting the missing track now, excpect that album soon!
the problem with this guy's music is that its hard to catogorise
its not as psychedelic as his excelent Super Record. but the folk is still there
but still strange as always.

Jump, Mako's third LP, came out in 1977 and had an easier style than his former releases. Today it is still considered an amazing musical milestone -- one in which Mako's guitar work earned him a place among the greatest guitar players in Japan's history.

Vodka Collins-Tokyo - New York[''73 Japan Glam Rock]

you guys wanted more Glam from Japan
ive been diggin' the internet and found this band
a japanese band with an american vocalist.
Allan Merril

Vodka Collins was the # 1 glam rock band in Japan in the early 1970s. It is rumoured that David Bowie's story of "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars" was based on this group. Vodka Collins even featured a guitarist from The Spiders, Monsieur Kamayatsu, which strongly supports this theory. The first incarnation of Vodka Collins disbanded in the winter of 1973, at the peak of their popularity, with lead singer Alan Merrill leaving Tokyo for London to form another succcessful glam pop band The Arrows, who had hits with "I Love Rock N Roll", "Touch Too Much" and "My last Night With You". Drummer Oguchi left for Africa, to study drum techniques after the band's breakup. Monsieur went solo to much success, and bassist Yokouchi formed the band Tensaw a few years later, who recut the Vodka Collins' song "Automatic Pilot" and had a hit with it.
source:

Rock & roll journeyman Alan Merrill has made a career of unique choices, and his early work with Vodka Collins ranks with one of the most bizarre. The band, a trio consisting of Merrill and Japan-born Hiroshi Oguchi and Take Yokouchi, was a mix of cultures that came together for one common goal: catchy power pop. Singing in both languages, the group was adept at both T. Rex-style rockers and gorgeous pop tracks, although the group's strengths were emphasized by the latter. Merrill's bluesy tendencies are reined in by the other two, while his smooth vocals put his distinctive stamp on the material. Although quite hard to find in the United States, Tokyo-New York is an inspiring meld of styles and cultures that speaks volumes for the power of rock music. The musicians' blend of amateurish performance and obvious enthusiasm makes this a treat for fans of obscure gems, although be warned that this is very much a product of the early '70s. Those looking to enhance their collections of quality overlooked rock should give this a shot; it would be hard to think of any other bilingual pop/rock albums that are as catchy as this.

Cosmos Factory-Metal Reflection['77 Japan Rare Hard Rock]

Firth and last (and rarest) LP by Cosmos Factory
its more hardrock but still it sounds like Cosmos Factory
this is a excelent Vinyl Rip(no noises,ect...)

Their last album, 'Metal Reflection'
has a reputation for being more of a metal/hard rock thing,
but it's actually a lot more varied than that.
It's a pretty good album containing proggy hard rock,
proggy metal, spacey prog, cosmic funk,
a ballad, and almost omnipresent synthesisers.
Some bits are reminiscent of some Magical Power Mako circa 'Jump'
[wich i will post in then near future].
The production is excellent

stay tuned for more cool stuff in the future(i got some really rare stuff)
tomorrow some Japanese Glam Rock by Vodka Collins
wich Marc Bolan & his wive seemed quite impressed with
when it got released in (72/73)

Flower Travelin' Band- From Pussies to Death in 10,000 Years of Freak Out!

A Present From A Kind Visitor
Do Leave Comments
And yet the recent bootleg of CHALLENGE studio out-takes, available on the spectacularly-named FROM PUSSIES TO DEATH IN 10,000 YEARS FREAK OUT, contains an un-released version of Led Zeppelins How Many More Times which is as exhilarating and enthralling as any Big Brother show ever could have been. It is James Brown-brilliant; a call-and-answer knee-trembler crossing the Misunderstood with the Yardbirds (with Jimmy), and Big Brother without their cack-handedness. That this was rejected from the final CHALLENGE tracklisting defies comment it was their best recording ever and still sounds like a lost 60s soul classic.
But it was not until the fashion for Hendrix and Cream-inspired Heavy Rock of the late 60s had spawned such sonic behemoths as Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, Mountain and Grand Funk that Yuya Uchida, the Flowers erstwhile leader, producer and mentor, decided to act. And, just as Terry Knight had left his own band, Terry Knight & the Pack, in order to turn them into Grand Funk, so Yuya Uchida now ejected himself and the other singers in an act of Blue Cheer-like self-pruning.

Continuing as their producer, it was Uchida who picked Joe as their new singer. But how should their new band sound? Just as Jimmy Page had vacillated between making Led Zeppelin exclusively heavy and joining the CSN&Y brigade, so Yuya Uchida had grave doubts about the direction in which Flower Travellin Band should be seen to be travelling. And so, for their first few months, Flower went off in all directions. First, they recorded the monumental 27-minute guitarnatmosphere freakout Im Dead, which transports the listener through every Amon Duul 2 jam session and burns every escape route as you pass along it. Im Dead is a monument of experimentation, of highs and even of lows, yet it was a spectacular success, and in terms of space and ambience - beyond what even the guitar-based Krautrock bands were later doing.
But this pure freak out music was not for Yuya Uchida

The past couple of years has seen a re-appraisal of the band in all its configurations, with two excellent releases. First came a dedication to The Flowers with the awesomely-titled FROM PUSSIES TO DEAD IN 10,000 YEARS OF FREAKOUT. It was on this vinyl-only release that we finally got to hear the incredible Joplinised version of Zeppelins How Many More Times, which I told you about earlier.

Paatos-Silence Of Another Kind[2006 Swedish Prog-Rock]

Latest release by this great swedish "prog-rock"
band with their great female vocalist Petronella Nettermalm.
its a good album but not my favourite ,that should be Timeloss or Kallocain(both good albums)
some moments it reminds me a bit of The Gathering(their non-metal stuff)
dont be afraid there's still enough guitar work on this album
after all its a great diverse album
Recommended!

Review:
With a much improved level of sophistication in the song writing, the bands latest offering suggests that Paatos have well and truly arrived. With a constant backdrop of the omnipresent but hauntingly beautiful mellotron, the band has managed to encapsulate what is often too difficult for most bands to achieve with regards to the accessibility of the songs. All but 1 of the 9 songs on this new release has an immediately comfortable familiarity factor built in as the melodies are strong and are accompanied by some very catchy hooks that should appease those who thought that Kallocain was too linear and stark.

While not quite as dark as bands such as Landberk, Anglagard, Morte Macabre or others who use the mellotron to induce some more sinister atmosphere within each songs, Paatos have managed to embellish those pieces in a way that adds the perfect amount of depth without sacrificing melody or subtlety. For instant proof of this, there can be no better example than the tracks, “Falling”, “Is That All?”, and “Not a Sound” which are amongst the strongest tracks offered.

Their vocalist, Petronella Nettermalm, has a truly mesmeric voice and seems to have expanded her capabilities and range so much more than before or perhaps it’s because the more elegant compositional style of the songs have enabled her to impart a very convincing message. While some will no doubt liken her overall sound to Annie Haslam’s, I tend to find that with this release more particularly, she sounds closer to Sonja Kristina but feel that may be attributed to the more Curved Air inspired sound of the songs themselves rather than her voice. Either way, the results speak for themselves as this must surely rate as the bands best body of work to date and elevates Petronella’s name as one to reckon with. Combined with her exquisite cello work on the penultimate track, you would be hard pressed to hear a more plaintive or emotional piece of music as this.

The production is first class with a very crisp sound that suggests that a lot of extra time and effort has been spent on getting the mix just right. The band has done an admirable job with this album and infused it with a lot of ideas that were absent on earlier releases. Whether you can accept the slightly different level of heaviness on this album may be a moot point but I found it a thoroughly enjoyable, albeit relatively short and entertaining ride. Well done guys!

The Jacks- Vacant World+Super Session['68/69 Japan Group Sounds]

CD collection of all the recordings by this legendary '60s Japanese psychedelic/garage band. The collection includes two albums plus rare singles. Unlike many Japanese bands The Jacks did not copy western pop music but developed their own brand of psychedelic weirdness and filled their recordings with distorted fuzz guitars, spacey flute, tortured vocals, jazzy brass and vibe laden instrumental excursions. The end result is equal to some of the best US '60s garage psych but with a distinctly Japanese flavour..

Justin Heatcliff-Justin Heatcliff['71 Japan Psychedelic Pop]

Heavily Recommended!
Beautiful laid back trippy Japanese psych album. Strong compositions, English vocals and a late '60's UK psychedelic rock/pop sound make this better than many UK albums of the era! Superb from start to finish. Featured on the Love Peace and Poetry series.

Long before attaining fame as a soundtrack composer and new age artist, Osamu Kitajima adopted a sufficiently Anglo pseudonym and released this amazing homage to British pop-psychedelia in 1971. Issued by Warner Bros. in Japan only, the LP has unsurprisingly climbed skywards in price ever since, and only a cave dweller could miss the faithful nods to Syd, Marc, John, Paul, George and Ringo in the original compositions and English lyrics. Osamu's ability around a studio was evident even then and the choice of genre to lovingly imitate predated the whole retro/'paisley' psych movement by about ten or fifteen years."

Flied Egg-Goodbye['72 Japan Prog Rock/Hard Rock]

Flied Egg was the band started by George Yanagi when Strawberry Path disbanded after one awesome album!

Heavily Recommended!
Flied Egg
- Goodbye CD. Reissue of rare Deep Purple influenced Japanese heavy psych blues rock from the early 70s.

"Flied Egg was a Japanese trio, and I'm really not sure if their weird name was intentional or not. Their farewell album "Goodbye" reveals, although not the most stylistically focused band you've heard, three guys who obviously had lots of fun and enjoyment in what they were doing. The first side was recorded live, and consisted of loud guitar based hard rock. It's rather simple and raw music, but still very enjoyable if you're in for something hard and energetic. And the 12-minute "Five More Pennies" includes some good jamming. The studio side is a bit more sophisticated and progressive, especially the excellent and complex instrumental "521 Seconds Schizophrenic Symphony" that includes some tasteful organ and piano too. The melodic "Out to the Sea" borrows the opening guitar chords from King Crimson's "Epitaph". "Before you Descend" has on the other hand more in common with the first side of the album. If you can find it, "Goodbye" will be well worth a listen if you're into hard 70's rock with some progressive elements thrown in here and there." - (vintageprog)

Sadistic Mika Band-Sadistic Mika Band ['73 Japan Hard Rock/Glam Rock]

later tonight some High Rise or other heavy stuff

Excelent Hard Rock/Glam Rock!
Sadistic Mika Band was formed in 1972 by guitarist/vocalist Kazuhiko Kato - previously a member of the popular Folk Crusaders, who had scored several number one hits. Fronted by Kato's wife, media personality Mika, Sadistic Mika Band released the single "Cycling Boogie", followed up by the full length Sadistic Mika Band in 1973. The music was hard rock with a distinctive Japanese nuance, and a far cry from the folk music Kato had been playing in the popular but formulaic Folk Crusaders. The first album made a minor splash in Japan, but listeners were at first not sure how to deal with the band's progressive sound, which theretofore had only been heard from from foreign bands. Perhaps because of this style, the record was released in the UK on the Harvest Records label, and caught the attention of some music critics and fans, including Ian MacDonald of New Musical Express, who declared that the band made Iggy and the Stooges sound like the Amadeus String Quartet. The band decided to record their second album in London with producer Chris Thomas, who had produced Pink Floyd, Roxy Music, Procul Harum, and others, and was already a fan of the band. The result was Kurobune (Black Ship) - a quantum stylistic and musical leap forward from its predecessor that charted highly in Japan, and was again released by Harvest Records in the UK. Although not a commercial success in England, the record was hailed by critics as a seminal work, receiving numerous accolades at home as well, including nods for number one band and album of 1974 from the Japanese edition of Rolling Stone. In the summer of 1975 the band recorded its third album, again with Thomas manning the board. Released the same year, Hot! Menu boasted some English lyrics for the first time, and saw the band in a more playful mood, while still showing off their impressive chops and compositional depth. The band joined Roxy Music in the summer of 1975 on a tour of Britain, and it appeared they might crack the elusive foreign market, but Kato suddenly left the following summer after it was discovered that Mika had been conducting an affair with Thomas. The band slogged forward for two more releases - Sadistics (1977) and We Are Just Taking Off (1978) - before breaking up. They reformed for a tour in 1985 as Sadistic Yuming Band, fronted by vocalist Yumi Matsutoya, and released an album of new material in 1989 called Appare with Karen Kirishima on vocals, performing several shows in support of it before calling it quits for good. By this time, several of the members were already megastars in Japan - in particular Yukihiro Takahashi, who along with Haruo Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto formed the legendary Yellow Magic Orchestra. Takahashi continues to perform with Hosono in their duo, Sketch Show. Kato has only periodically recorded since the band broke up for good, mostly staying out of the limelight

all Sadistic Mika Band releases where released in the UK on vinyl
so maybe you can track them down in a second hand shop

Blues Creation-Blues Creation[1969 Japan Heavy Blues Rock

from the land of the lama's who go again to the land of the rissing sun

Out of the ashes of the forerunner BICKKIES, mainman Kazuo Takeda(g) formed at the end of the 60's BLUES CREATION, together with Fumio Nunoya(vo), Takayuki Noji(b) and Shinichi Tashiro(ds). In 1969 they released the debut album "Blues Creation",which contains coverversions of CREAM, YARDBIRDS,etc. At that time, almost all members were still High School students.

After a big chance in the line-up, Kazuo founded new members in Hiromi Osawa(vo), Masashi Saeki(b) and Akiyoshi Higuchi(ds). With the new members their sound also changed from the early days and in 1971 BLUES CREATION released their masterpiece "Demon & Eleven Children". At almost the same time, the band recorded another album with female singer Carmen Maki, which become famous 'cause of this album, titled "Carmen Maki & Blues Creation".

After these releases BLUES CREATION were popular and they hold status as a new Japanese Rock act. But in 1972 they split up and the members were going into different directions. Founder Kazuo Takeda formed a new band, called CREATION ,which became successful in Japan as a Hardrock band,

This album is worth downloading because Kazuo Takeda does excelent guitar work.

Back to Peru:The Most Complete Compilation of Peruvian Underground 64-74

this compilation seems to be out of print
the record company(Vampisoul) doesnt sell it anymore(correct me if im wrong) An excelent compilation with Garage Rock, Psychedelic Rock and some Acid Folk.

Review:
Purveyors of 60's music, having grown weary of dredging the annals of European and American garage, psyche, pop, rock etc. have in recent years turned their attention elsewhere. It hasn’t been the first time but lately there seems to be a profound interest in music from the sixties that originated in more distant lands. The Far East for example and in the case of this compilation Latin America, more specifically the country of Peru.

If you think about the geography of Peru with it’s coastal plains, the rugged Andean mountains, and tropical rainforests, a very diverse picture begins to emerge. Now hold that thought, apply it to the music found on this disc and that should give you a good idea of the range of styles showcased on this compilation. Everything from surf, Mersey Beat, cheesy organ driven garage, Andean psych folk and at least three songs by obsessive Hendrix devotees.

To clarify, the official title gives the years (64-74) which is a little odd considering the earliest tracks are from 1966. Still, eight years is a lot of ground to cover and by what I can gather from the somewhat obfuscating and poorly translated liner notes, the social and cultural milieu of those times proved to be an extremely fertile period for Peruvian music in all it’s various forms. Indeed the liner notes describe the capitol of Lima as a place where, “for every four blocks of the city there was at least one band, and out of every twenty bands, five of them were really good. My calculator tells me that’s five good bands every 80 blocks which is not that bad considering the size of a city like Limo. The lack of a real music industry and access to proper recording equipment though is one of the main reasons that much of this music was lost or never put down in the first place. Nonetheless the folks at vampi soul have compiled a great time capsule of what has survived.

There are songs in Spanish and in English but on nearly every track the influence of American and U.K. acts is undeniable. You could throw the Termits track, Bailemos on any Ventures album and not know the difference except for the inferior recording quality. Some of the band names like Los York’s, Laghonia, and Traffic Sound have all seen reissues recently but there are plenty of others that are making their cd debut. There’s the track Wiched Man, yup, that’s how it’s spelled, from the band Smog. This ain’t of the Bill Callahan variety though but rather it sounds like a cover of Purple Haze with different words.

Some of the most fascinating stuff on here are the songs that skip the impersonations and instead blend the popular outside influences with traditional rhythms and instruments. El Polen create beautiful spacious music with acoustic guitars, Andean flutes, electric bass and violin. If you’ve ever heard Simon and Garfunkel’s El Condor Pasa, it’s like that but way better and authentic. Radical political changes would take place in 1968 when a military coup would attempt to unite the country, implementing far-reaching economic and social reforms. Radio stations were obliged to play regional music in place of foreign or alien sounds, this included local ethnic versions of modern hits.

In 1970 a Santana concert was abruptly cancelled after 45,000 tickets had sold. One story is that there had been bomb threats by radical university students, the other was that the night before the show they were discovered in an orgy of drugs and sex with the daughters of some of Lima’s most influential families. The changes that were taking place had a major impact on the rock scene and slowly it’s growth was slowed to a halt. The music found on this album represents a golden period for rock and experimentation that existed in Peru for a precious length of time. It is a aural document and a great listen

Ton Vlasman-White room with desintegrating walls[1970 NL Acid Folk]

The Ton Vlasman LP White room with desintegrating walls, was musically a cross between urban folk and Indian tinted music. The album was released on the Amsterdam-based Flame Record label, an independent run by Don Peijters (originally from Assen, his brother played in the legendary formation The Sound of Imker ! ) but sold very badly at the time. Already in the eighties, record collectors worldwide particulary loved the album cover, made by fellow-Rotterdammer Leendert Le Duc, who was also responsible for the colourfull inner, a design wich would pop up again in 2000, when it was used for the cover of the prog-sampler Fantasio Daze on the (new) Op-Art label. When recording the LP, seven self-written compositions and one cover (the Velvet Underground’s Pale blue eyes ), Ton was accompanied by Frans Schoonen (organ, flute and harmonica) and Leo v.d. Vugt (Chincha tumba and tambourine). When visiting the Amsterdam 1990 Artis Record Fair, on request of the ARC-organisation, Ton was at the spot interviewed by a German reporter of the “Stern”, answering questions about the (already then) astonishing price of the album.
